Bars
As simple as making cookies seems, I find them tricky. For one, it’s easy to over or under bake them. Ten minutes they’re underdone and 12 minutes they’re burnt. Then there’s always multiple cookie sheets. The solution, bar cookies. One pan with all the goodness without the fuss.
Biscotti
Biscotti means twice baked in Italian. To me that means it is twice as good with coffee. In Italy, biscotti often accompanies a glass of wine. Sounds like cookies for adults. That begs the question, what isn't biscotti good with?
Breakfast Pastry
Breakfast pastry covers all kinds of yummy stuff you want along with that first cup of coffee. Remember what your Mom always told you, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Nothing starts a day off better than a big ol' piece of coffee cake.
Cakes
Most people think of cakes for birthdays but that is only the beginning. They’re great for any occasion which make cake recipe cards particularly versatile when you can’t find that just right card for say a house warming. Remember, cakes come in all shapes and sizes including Bundt, layer, coffee, and sheet etc. Now tell me you can't find a good recipe card for that upcoming retirement party?
Candy
Kids aren’t the only ones that like candy. Here’s my proof. Who’ll deny grabbing a candy bar while in the checkout line at the grocery store? Growing up we all have memories of making fudge with Mom and if you’re not now, maybe you should start a similar tradition with your kids. Need suggestions on what to make? I have some and you or your kids won’t be disappointed.
Cobbler & Fruit
Cobbler, that warm luscious fruit dessert often served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It may seem like a strange dessert name but the consensus is that it got it because the lumps of cooked dough resembled cobblestones. You be the judge.
Coffee Cakes
Coffee Cakes are unquestionably my pastry of choice for breakfast. It defines morning comfort food better than any other pastry you can think of and its name alone tells you how well it pairs with that first cup of “joe” in the morning.
Cookies
Who doesn't like cookies? If nothing else, it brings the kid in us out. A quote that I think applies here is, "a cookie in each hand is a balanced diet." Need I say more? With that said, I'm sure you can find two here that will help you balance yours.
Cupcakes
When I look at a cupcake, I smile and think to myself, one bite or two? Not surprisingly, I prefer one. Likewise, I like to think of them as miniature cakes you can eat with one hand. Cupcakes have all kinds of advantages. I'm sure you would agree.
Gluten-Free
For those that have a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, don't despare. There are many good recipes just for you. Not only are they delicious, but your non-gluten sensitive friends with NEVER know the difference. Enjoy baked goods just like everyone else.
Muffins
Don't confused muffins with cupcakes. Muffins are considered health food. Didn't know you? Also, In my opinion, muffins are just bite sized quick breads. Easy to make, easy to take with you and there is nothing wrong with that either. Bottom line, muffins are good for you.
Pies
Did you know the word 'Pie' is an abbreviation of Precise, Intense Eating and stems back to the early 19th Century when the cuisine style became fashionable in the European royal courts? As most people were illiterate but still wanted a precise, intense eating experience, the kitchen staff would abbreviate to P.I.E.
Quick Breads
Quick breads are a godsend when you're in a hurry. These are my "go to" recipes when I need something fast but good. Plus, they're easy but that won't diminish how delicious they are. Make one of these quick breads and ask your family or guests. Because they're easy, these are great cards for your rookie baker friends.
Scones
Take the best characteristics of quick breads, throw in a variety of your favorite ingredients, cut into cute little wedges and you have scones. We have our British friends to thank for giving us something delicious and of course “low cal” to accompany our Starbucks skinny caffè latte. Now you can enjoy them at home.
Snacks
Even with food, it’s sometimes hard to put everything we eat into a separate category. That’s why they created the catch-all category snacks. Snacks include anything that we like to eat but doesn’t neatly fit in to the food pyramid. That’s doesn’t mean it’s not nutritious. It only means there are no set portions. Eat as much or as little as you want. Snacks are the ultimate comfort food.
Yeast Breads
Here are all kinds of yummy yeast breads. They may take longer to make but trust me, its well worth the effort. Plus, the great thing about bread recipe cards is that they can be used for virtually any occasion and they're useful to the person you're sending them to. Who do you know that could resist the temptation of homemade bread?
